1. What are CASETiFY CONSCiOUS compostable cases made out of?
Our compostable phone case is engineered with CASETiFY’s new trademark material, ecotify™ (a proprietary blend of biopolymers, starch, and bamboo). This material decomposes via microorganisms into carbon dioxide and water in a properly managed composting facility, satisfying European Union EN13432 and U.S. ASTM 6400D biodegradability standards.
2. What makes our compostable cases eco-friendly?
Every accessory in the collection is 100% compostable and biodegradable. It will mix seamlessly back into the earth after use, with no toxins left behind. The packaging is also made from 100% recycled paper and free of virgin plastic to help lighten our footprint.
3. Who is Earth Day Network? What is the goal of the Canopy Project?
Earth Day Network's mission is to diversify, educate, and activate the environmental movement worldwide. Their Canopy Project has one major goal: to plant 7.8 billion trees by 2020; that's one for every person on the planet, to combat climate change and provide food and habitat for the species of the world. We’re thrilled to be partnering with them to help achieve their goal.
4. What about the other non-biodegradable cases that you sell?
As a part of our Mission to Zero, CASETiFY will also move towards replacing virgin plastics with sustainable sources across our product lines, with the goal to source 30% of all CASETiFY products from eco-friendly materials by 2025. We will continue to improve as we learn.
5. How protective is your compostable case?
Our bamboo-based substance is not only free of virgin plastics; its high-tensile strength and high compressive strength provides protection for your phone against 4 ft. drops.
6. How does your compostable case feel to the touch? What are the little specks that show up in the material?
Our compostable case is soft to the touch with some flexibility, without compromising on protection. The specks you see are actually particles of bamboo; not only do they provide more protection, but they also add a unique texture and appearance.
7. How will the case decompose? Will it break down before I want it to?
Decomposition occurs via aerobic and anaerobic processes from various microbes. After the microbes do their job, worms, fungi, and bugs continue the process and transform nitrogen to nitrates, which are usable by plants. Once the organic material is broken down, essential nutrients and water are returned to the soil. The compostable case will only break down when it meets the right composting environment. We recommend disposing of our products in a commercial compost facility where they can be broken down, turned into compost and then returned to the soil. If you are based in the U.S. or HK, you can return your phone cases to us — we'll recycle or compost them and you get CASETiFY shopping credits. Submit your return here
8. Is your compostable case free of toxins?
Yes, our cases have been lab-tested. They meet ASTM-D6400's standard to be 100% compostable and we use zero toxin materials.
9. Do I have to decompose it? Can’t I just throw it away?
We strongly encourage customers to also follow our pursuit of zero waste, and ensure your compostable case completes its journey through decomposition. To find a compost facility near you, please visit the US EPA website or check out Find A Composter. If you are located near one of our Hong Kong retail locations, bring us your old CASETiFY cases for our phone case recycling program RECASETiFY to get a discount code for a new case.
10. Does it support wireless charging?
Yes, it supports wireless charging.
11. Why does the custom font engraving have rough edges?
All of our engraving is done by an innovative laser engraving machine to ensure each custom case is unique to its owner. Due to the compostable ecotify™ material we are engraving on, you should expect to see the texture through the engraved designs. We think it adds character!
12. Will it change colour?
Like most items—lighter colours will stain easier than darker colours will. So we recommend storing your device away from dark denim or any dark dyes as they will likely stain your case and will be quite stubborn to remove. If the problem arises, you can clean your case with soap and water or with a cleaning wipe.
